It supplies us with courage and confidence to start projects or blaze new trails and it supplies stamina to fight until we have succeeded. The anger that Mars often breeds is useful and necessary. Obviously it can also cause harm, and taken too far, is counterproductive. But healthy, restrained and appropriate anger is useful. Sometimes a point is better made with the force of some anger behind it. |
Mars in the 1st House...
Mars in the first house lends a straightforward and direct quality to person's personality. Headstrong and willful, these people know how to get what they want and they aren't afraid to ask for it or fight for it. Because Mars represents the "will" and a person's ability to assert their will, Mars in the first house, of reaching out and interacting with the world, creates a powerful combination. Mars in the first house doesn't hold back. When it sees what it wants, it reaches out and grabs it. It says what it wants to say and makes sure it is heard. Mars in the first house sees life as a challenge to be conquered.
Mars in the 2nd House....
Often impulsive and demanding, Mars in the second house knows what it wants and goes after it forcefully. Mars in the second house is willing to take risks to further financial success. Mars in the 3rd House...The will is exerted with a third-house Mars through communication, early education, information and short distance travel. A chart holder with Mars in the third house is likely to speak bluntly. Mars here wants to win arguments, be correct and is willing to put up a fight about it. At best, a third-house Mars is assertive in communication and defends what it believes to be correct. At worst, Mars in the third house is an intellectual bully who must be correct at any cost. This position makes a chart holder feel that being connected with family and neighbors is vital to their sense of self. They need to get around town and stay in touch with what's happening around them.
Mars in the 4th House...Satisfying the needs of the will in the fourth house can be difficult because it is a deep, emotional house where much of the feeling is unconscious. Mars is an impatient, conscious planet and doesn't have time for, or understand the emotional undercurrents which are better dealt with using patience and tact. To complicate it further, the house inextricably involves family members with whom the relationships are extremely close and even vital. Because Mars only serves the will of the chart holder, delicate family emotions are often dished a harsh blow by Mars' aggressive, determined and intrinsically selfish style. If Mars takes the need to satisfy its own will too far in the fourth house, the vital relationships with parents and children can be harmed leaving Mars feeling uncared for and alone. At its best, Mars in the fourth house uses its aggressive, assertive strength to support its family, defending weaker members or values that keep the family together. The chart holder with this placement of Mars will see at least one parent as strong, aggressive, impatient or possibly self-serving.
Mars in the 5th House...A great position for Mars in found in the fifth house. Mars' need to satisfy the will of the chart holder is expressed with joy here because through play, art, romance or children, Mars can make the chart holder feel powerful. The fifth house makes it easy, leaving Mars free from the frustration it often experiences in other houses where the execution of the chart holder's will is not so easily achieved.
|
However, a fifth-house Mars is demanding and selfish in romance and recreational activities with others. When expressing themselves, fifth-house Mars people are likely to be touchy about criticism, do not welcome advice about their self-expression and will never take orders about the way they express themselves creatively. Although children are welcome, a fifth-house Mars chart holder may feel hampered by the responsibility at times. Because in the fifth house, other people are used as reflections of the chart holder, there is sometimes a dynamic where as children grow and develop their own will as teens, they stop serving as a reflection of the parent and may clash with the will of the parent's fifth-house Mars.
Mars in the 6th House...When the will is exerted in the sixth house, amazing things can be accomplished! Mars in the sixth house is determined to do things well. And if it can't do things well on its own, it will find someone else to do it. But it will get done. Mars' usual bossy attitude shown here often translates into getting other people to do work and serve. Mars always feels that it should be served. In the sixth house this is accentuated. However, by creating a team of people are willing to serve, a great deal can be accomplished. Mars also has high standards. So, in the sixth house, it pushes people to do their best work possible. Although Mars in the sixth house doesn't create the most giving chart holder as far as caring for others, it can achieve a lot. There is often an aggressive attitude towards maintaining health with a sixth-house Mars. A rigorous physical fitness routine may satisfy Mars' need to release aggression and be in charge of its own health.
Mars in the 7th House...Those with Mars in the seventh house often find themselves in power struggles in one-to-one relationships because they need to exert their will in their relationships. Mars is the planet of "will" and when it is in the seventh house of "relationships", the chart holder's need to exert their will usually comes at the expense of another person. They actually use relationships as the vehicles for the expression of their will. In other words, they get want they want out of life through one-to-one relationships. Likewise, they expect other people to be equally interested in fulfilling their own needs and agendas. Put all of this together and it is obvious how seventh-house Mars people can be aggressive, demanding and argumentative in one-to-one relationships. However, if they are able to use restraint and patience, seventh-house Mars chart holders can make powerful negotiators who can gain successes and gains through one-to-one associations. Those with a seventh-house Mars or Aries on their descendant are attracted to Aries-like people who are aggressive and confident.

Mars in the 8th House...
An eighth-house Mars can be a challenging placement. Mars represents the "will" of the chart holder. When Mars is in the eighth house of give and take in the world and intimate relationships, it can get intensely frustrated. Mars has the most difficultly letting go of its own needs and wants because its whole purpose is to satisfy the will of the chart holder. When the will seeks satisfaction through other people and things which are beyond anyone's control in the world, it will constantly get stifled by obstacles and road blocks. Long-term battles in relationships can ensue over perceptions of what's fair. Problems with taxes are common because Mars refuses to let go of what it sees as its possession. Issues of emotional control in relationships can erupt into screaming matches that never find resolution because Mars finds it so difficult to give.
Mars in the 9th House...
A common placement for people who join the military, Mars in the ninth house can fulfill its need to conquer and exert its will by completing military missions in foreign lands. Other chart holders with this position may exert the will of their Mars by spreading their religious or philosophical ideas through publishing or mass media. They are often professors who enjoy teaching what they know to as many people as they can. When Mars in the ninth house doesn't have an outlet like the military, teaching or publishing, it can get stifled and then suddenly burst at times when it may not be appropriate and over seemingly trivial matters. Mars in the ninth house needs to express its opinions. So, making sure it has proper outlets for doing so is paramount. Otherwise it becomes argumentative about anything and everything in an artificial and awkward attempt to exert its will in the arena of philosophies an opinions.
Mars in the 10th House...
Mars in the tenth house knows how to take what it wants from the world. It exerts its will onto the world and has no fear of possible repercussions. These chart holders are aggressive in going after their careers and have strong, confident personas. They don't shy away from fighting for spotlight and any opportunity to increase their status is seen as a battle to be won. Any career allowing them to demonstrate their strength and the forcefulness of their will is likely with this position. The military and policing are obvious choices for these chart holders, but so politics which gives a more subtle avenue for demonstrating their desire to take on a fight and win in the public arena. Losing or appearing weak in the eyes of the public is devastating to them and can put them into a rage. There is a constant need to appear strong and confident. Fighting for the rights of others is common with this position as Mars loves to play the hero. If the chart holder's public image is improved in the process, its a double victory!
Mars in the 11th House...Impatient and aggressive in dealing with social groups and issues, Mars in the eleventh house has an obvious level of resentment for the power of the group. Mars' independent nature clashes with the group centered, cooperative nature of the eleventh house. If the chart holder with an eleventh house Mars can lead the group, they feel satisfied. However, being lost in crowd and following the orders of social institutions causes Mars to get frustrated, angry, and if pushed hard enough, to erupt. The "one-size-fits-all" nature of the eleventh house doesn't fit well with Mars' need to serve itself. Government rules designed to keep order anger Mars. Being patient in social groups by waiting in lines or following other protocols can feel torturous to Mars. These chart holders can easily lose their cool in these situations and speak out in protest to the shock of the group. Often they will simply find a quick escape out of society's institutional traps and ignore or break the rules. Paying fines and dealing with other punishments society inflicts for not conforming is something Mars in the eleventh house is commonly confronted with. When allowed to lead, however, Mars in the eleventh house can shine and is often able to achieve a great deal of social change.
Mars in the 12th House...Being raised by parents who teach that children are not allowed to show aggression, anger or to exert their will is common with a twelfth-house Mars. Even if the parents didn't state it plainly, it was assumed by the chart holder to be the general rule of the home. As adults, these people often impose their will or fighting spirit without consciously realizing it. It is common for these chart holders to forever see themselves as they were as children, agreeable and submissive. They often politely fight their way to the top of their career and silently make sure they get what they want out of life. To directly express the wants of their will is seen to them as rude and selfish. The direct expression of anger is also difficult for them and they may try to work out anger in dreams, ending up with nightmares. Sports is an excellent outlet for their unconscious need to assert their will, their anger and their need to fight to win. Excelling at a career that puts them above the crowds like success as a physician is also common. These people always have a lingering feeling that they are too submissive and others see them as weak. They constantly strive to be strong and stand up for themselves. However, all of this effort throughout their lives makes them very strong people who are able to exert their will while still having compassion for others.
